| Depending on what casino you decide to play at, the basic
rules for blackjack will change slightly. It is quite
normal for a casino on the Vegas strip, for example, to
have rules that are a little bit different than the rules
in a Reno or Atlantic City casino. For this reason, it
is always important to know the basic rules of the game
you are playing as they apply to the casino at which you
are playing. Here are some basic blackjack rules that
apply pretty much universally across the board.
The blackjack table is a large, custom built table
that seats the dealer and between one and seven players.
On the blackjack table, the seat to the dealer’s
left is referred to as first base and the seat to
the dealer’s right is called third base. Printed
on the felt, in front of each player’s seat,
there is a betting square. This is where bets are
placed. The dealer has the chip tray in front of his
seat. Immediately to the dealer’s left you will
find the card shoe and the sign that indicates the
minimum bet. It would be wise to read this sign before
you begin play to ensure that you are not in over
your head. To the dealer’s immediate right there
is a money drop slot. This is where all currency and
tips are placed. Next to this you will find a discard
tray.
According to blackjack rules, play officially begins
after the dealer shuffles the cards, a player cuts
the deck and the dealer burns (discards) the top card.
Players must place a wager in the drop box before
cards are dealt.
